GameChange Solar creates free PV training course with Texas workforce development service
GameChange Solar partnered with Texas-based workforce management service Workrise in supporting free, hands-on training for students interested in joining the growing renewable energy industry. Through people and technology, Workrise matches its workforce with companies who need them to deploy skilled workers at scale.
The free, two-day training course will be offered by Lone Star College with classes taking place both online and in-person. Students will learn the basics of installing utility-scale solar racking and modular equipment as well as earn an OSHA 10 certification. As part of the curriculum, students will specifically learn GameChange Solar’s Genius Tracker system.
“Workrise is committed to helping people get back to work,” said Ron Nickelson, head of solar and new construction at Workrise. “Our partnership with GameChange Solar gives students the hands-on training they need to secure good jobs with low barriers of entry in the solar industry.”
Upon completing the program, students will be equipped to work in the solar industry to construct, assemble and maintain commercial solar systems. The weekly course has started and will continue throughout the spring.
“We’re excited to be a part of the Lone Star College solar installation course with Workrise,” said Max Johnson, director of business development at GameChange Solar. “The program will be very beneficial as the U.S. continues to make the shift from oil/gas into renewables. Solar projects and construction continue to be on the rise, so it is important we have a skilled workforce ready. We are also excited for the increased familiarity of Genius Tracker’s main pre-assembled parts that bring down the installation time for major construction savings.”
