Fronius Strengthens Inverter And EV Charger Warranties
Austrian solar manufacturer Fronius has boosted the warranty on its Wattpilot EV charger and also selected solar inverters; better reflecting the premium price paid for Fronius kit.
First, To Fronius Inverters
For quite some time and up to the start of this month, a Fronius inverter purchase would be accompanied by a standard parts and labour warranty of five years, known as “Fronius Warranty Plus”. But after registering the device in Fronius Solar.web – the company’s monitoring platform – you’d get another 5 years. But this extra 5 years only covered parts.
From the 1st of October 2024 until the 31st of December next year, eligible Fronius inverter owners can claim an additional 5 years of Fronius Warranty Plus at no cost. Eligible inverters include the SnapINverter family (Primo/Symo), GEN24, GEN24 Plus and Tauro inverter ranges.
To take advantage of this offer, the inverter must be installed within the promotion period and the system registered online at Solar.web within 24 months of that date. You’ll then be able to claim the additional 5-year Fronius Warranty Plus from the application and also download the warranty extension certificate.
I’ve had an 8.2 kW Fronius Primo SnapINverter for the last couple of years and I’ve been happy with its performance. The only niggle has been installing firmware updates, which I’ve found to be time-consuming and somewhat hit and miss – at times requiring several attempts. And one of the warranty conditions is to keep it updated.
The other thing to be aware of is the SnapINverter range has a rather noisy fan; particularly on hotter days. Installing one of these near a window of a living area is best avoided. However, the newer GEN24 range may have a bigger fan, but I’m told they are much quieter.
Fronius inverters are at the pricey1 end of the inverter brands currently recommended by SolarQuotes, but I feel it’s money well spent given how hard an inverter has to work.
In this year’s SolarQuotes Installers Choice Awards, Fronius scored gold for the best inverters in 2024, marking the fourth year in a row it’s won this category. The firm also scooped bronze in the budget inverter category (although they aren’t budget-priced) and gold in a new category – support.
Fronius Wattpilot Warranty Boost
The company also manufactures a nifty EV charger called the Fronius Wattpilot. One of its standout features is when used with a compatible Fronius solar inverter and smart meter, the Wattpilot enables an EV to be charged with surplus solar power.
One of the drawbacks of the Wattpilot was its rather lacklustre warranty – just 2 years. But according to Fronius Australia, that’s been boosted to 3 years for units installed from August 1 2024 to 31 December 2025. I wasn’t able to find the extended warranty document on the Fronius Australia website, so be sure to get hold of it before you make a purchase decision.
I’ve been using a Wattpilot (22J) with our BYD Atto 3 for around 18 months now and have found it to be a great little unit. Again, it’s at the more expensive end of the range of home EV chargers available in Australia.
In this year’s SQ Installers Choice Awards, the Wattpilot took out gold for the best EV charger in 2024 (money no object category) and silver for support.
Fronius’s focus is on quality – so it’s nice to see their warranties starting to better match that focus; particularly since it is expensive gear.
