California YMCA goes solar + storage with XeroSolar
XeroSolar will officially connect a 221-kW solar array with a 223-kWh Tesla battery at the Torrance-South Bay YMCA in Torrance, California. The project is expected to offset one-fifth of the building’s electricity usage.
The solar power system was generously donated by Jerry Marcil, current Torrance-South Bay YMCA’s Community Support Campaign Chair, Y board member, and longtime Y supporter. Ben Lochtenberg, Managing Director, XeroSolar, is the Y’s Board and Financial Development Committee Chair as well as the Y’s Chairman’s Round Table annual investor.
“The Torrance-South Bay Y is blessed to have board members like Jerry Marcil and Ben Lochtenberg who were instrumental in making solar energy a reality for us,” said Steve MacAller, Executive Director, Torrance-South Bay YMCA.
As of October 27, 2021, the self-generated facility interconnection on Southern California Edison’s Electric Grid has been approved, and the Y has been granted permission to operate the solar panel system. The Torrance-South Bay YMCA is the first branch in the LA Association to go solar.
