Mount Desert Island Solar Farm Under Development

Under Maine’s new policy, Community Solar Farms are making it possible for every Mainer to save money and reduce carbon pollution, even if your property is unsuitable for an on-site solar array. Our newest solar farm will be located on Mount Desert Island and will be available to folks living in the Versant utility territory. It will be our largest solar farm yet, with likely over 100 member-owners.

Today, the convenience of community solar (portability and no need to find a place for it on your roof or in your yard!) makes it an incredibly compelling path to go solar and enjoy all the financial savings commensurate with owning your own solar power.

We are continually developing community solar sites. The site currently under development for the first CSF in Versant utility territory is located at the Eastern Maine Recycling center on Mount Desert Island. We are naming this the Long Pond CSF in the spirit of its glacially-born, freshwater neighbor.

We have partnered before with Mount Desert Island-based A Climate To Thrive (ACTT) over the years and they have been instrumental in the organization of this upcoming solar farm. ACTT seeks to propel Mount Desert Island into the future and preserve its ancient beauty by ridding the island of fossil-fuel power by 2030.

Additionally, before getting in touch with us, please call Versant to ask for your total annual electricity usage in kilowatt-hours. Their phone number is 1-855-363-7211. Have your account number handy as they usually need that information.
