Diversifying SunPower’s Fleet with American Heroes

SunPower has a long-held relationship with the U.S. military, providing cost-saving solar installations at various bases across the nation. That relationship is expected to expand even further with a newly formed partnership. With the employment initiative Hiring Our Heroes, SunPower will gain more access to like-minded, freedom chasing job candidates.

Hiring Our Heroes matches veterans, service members and military spouses with employment opportunities. The organization provides resumé building services, mentorships and workshops to help those transitioning out of the military to become qualified candidates within the civilian workforce. As a result of these efforts, several thousand members of our nation’s bravest have been hired by civilian organizations, including Major Jim Purekal, USMC, who joined the market development and policy team at SunPower in August.

Formerly a helicopter pilot, Purekal transitioned into civilian work after 20 years of service through the Solar Ready Vets program. Solar Ready Vets works in close partnership with Hiring Our Heroes, bridging veterans with jobs in solar power due to the industry’s extreme growth. A recent report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration confirmed that solar energy is one of the fastest growing sources for the nation’s electricity. With that growth comes more jobs. Jobs that need contributors with a range of skills and experiences to deliver even more intelligent solar, storage and energy services to businesses and homeowners across the nation.

Working with Hiring Our Heroes to grow the SunPower fleet with diverse candidates is not the only way the brand shows support for service men and women. In early 2020, SunPower launched the Military Alliance Program to increase the accessibility and affordability of solar power for U.S. veterans and active duty service members. This exclusive $1,000 dollar VISA reward card rebate1 not only makes solar more accessible to military homeowners, it also sets them up for lower utility costs for years to come. That’s because choosing SunPower means choosing the most efficient solar panels in the market2.

SunPower believes that solar power should be accessible to everyone and — with the Military Alliance Program — we are one step closer to that goal. Arming America’s heroes with clean, reliable solar energy is just one way we help serve those that have given so much to our country.
