SolarQuotes and One Small Step

SolarQuotes and the “One Small Step” app team have partnered to provide Australian households the best advice on going solar.

Launched in May 2020, the One Small Step app gives individuals the tools and knowledge they need to reduce their annual carbon footprint to the UN’s 2050 goal of 2 tonnes per person per year – or even below.

By last month, the rapidly-growing One Small Step app community had avoided more than 3,472,000 kilograms (3,472 tonnes) of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) greenhouse gases. In 2022, the team is also planting a tree on behalf of every person who signs up to help reach a goal of planting 100,000 trees and to assist 100,000 people in their efforts to go emissions-free.

The app surveys users and provides them with customised step-by-step and easy to follow green living ‘action plans’. These plans include short courses on topics such as cutting carbon kilometres, reducing food waste at home, or in the case of the SolarQuotes partnership – going solar.

SolarQuotes was founded in 2009 by chartered electrical engineer Finn Peacock. His goal was to make it fast, easy and fun to get up to speed on solar power and seek quotes from pre-vetted, trusted installers. To date, more than 593,000 Australians have used the free solar quoting service, which is backed by SolarQuotes’ Good Installer Guarantee.

Installing Solar Panels A “Quick Win”

Finn says while the goal of most Australian households installing solar panels is to lower their energy bills, an important bonus in generating your own electricity is reducing reliance on emissions-intensive fossil fuel-based mains grid power. It’s a true win-win situation.

“Our customers tell us solar energy helps reduce the pressure from relentless and high electricity bills. But many also tell us of their desire to reduce their carbon footprints. That’s why this partnership with the One Small Step app is a great fit.

One of the quickest carbon-reducing wins for the average Australian household is to install solar. The typical 6.6 kW solar power system will slash a home’s annual carbon footprint by around 9 tonnes. Not bad for something that sits on your roof!”

Commenting on the partnership, One Small Step Founder and CEO Lily Dempster said:

“The visible green actions you take are proven to have a social contagion effect on your friends, family and community. That’s why we’re working consistently with partners like SolarQuotes to deliver a science-based, data-informed collection of free courses to help guide and support our community.”

The One Small Step app is free to use and available on the iOS App Store and Google Play.
