SunPower and the Sierra Club Promote Clean Energy Through Solar Power

SunPower’s mission to change how our world is powered is one that the Sierra Club has worked on for decades. The organization has spent well over a century influencing positive environmental change and 3.8 million members and supporters have joined to lend a helping hand. Sierra Club focuses on issues that shape the world around us and advocates for a healthier planet, including on the very important topic of energy. It’s one that’s near and dear to us here at SunPower and was a natural catalyst for our partnership.

The Sierra Club is working to advance climate solutions, fight for clean air and water, and keep our wild places wild. From their Ready for 100 campaign to the Beyond Coal initiative, the Sierra Club has been building the strength of its members and partnerships to fuel clean energy efforts and move beyond coal and gas. The average coal power plant is 840 MW, which can supply over 400,000 homes per year. Out of a total of 351,434 MW of coal-produced energy, 184,554 MW have already been retired and the Sierra Club is campaigning to replace 166,880 MW more with alternative energy solutions. By providing educational resources, organizing petitions, and encouraging thought-provoking conversations, the Sierra Club is challenging North American locations and businesses to make the transition to renewable energy that fights climate change, creates job opportunities, and fosters healthier conditions for the next generation. The Sierra Club also has a program for that next generation. Through Climate Parents, families are mobilizing for 100% clean energy and climate solutions.

At SunPower, we’re working to change the way our world is powered through our high-efficiency solar + storage solutions. For starters, SunPower solar panels feature uniquely designed solar cells that are unobstructed by metallic gridlines, enabling the surface to absorb more sunlight. It’s this design that gives SunPower the most efficient panels on the market.1 And when home and business owners are able to produce more clean energy in less space, it helps reduce the overall effects of fossil-fuel-generated electricity.

As part of our shared vision of a 100% clean energy future, SunPower is helping Sierra Club members go solar with a $1,000 VISA reward card rebate2. Even better, SunPower donates $1,000 to support the Sierra Club each time a member chooses SunPower for their home solar needs. Since 2019, more than 900 members have taken advantage of this solar discount and chosen a SunPower solar system. By generating clean energy from the sun, these Sierra Club members are helping reduce carbon emissions at the equivalent of driving over 14 million miles each year3.
